Destination weddings can be an adventure for all of your guests.  Planning a destination wedding however can be tricky since you do not live in the location.  Avoid these mistakes for a hassle free day.

1. Reading your vendor contracts carefully

Before you sign any vendor contracts be sure to ready them carefully so you fully understand what you can and cannot do.  Many destination wedding locations are in protected forests and beaches.  Rules and regulations may be very different from your own town.

2. Mother Nature is boss

While the idea of an outdoor wedding attracts many couples, they often forget they are not in charge of the weather.  Rain is not the only thing that can affect an outdoor event.  High winds can cause wedding dresses to trip the bride as she walks down the aisle.  Wearing a veil is typically a poor choice for an outdoor wedding due to any amount of wind billowing it to a fro.  Hot temperatures can be very difficult for your guests if they are expected to spend long amounts of time outdoors.  Plan to bring bottled water to keep hydration up.

3. Leaving parts of your wedding look behind

Make sure you have packed every last detail of your wedding outfit. The wedding dress is typically hard to overlook.  However shoes, undergarments and jewelry often do not make it in the car for the trip.  In small town destinations such as Nashville Indiana there are typically no stores where you can purchase the forgotten items.

4. Planning a Legal Ceremony Without Doing Your Homework

Do not assume you can show up and the destination will take care of your legal marriage license for you.  For couples that reside in the State of Indiana you must obtain your license from your own county clerk.  If you live out of state you must obtain the license from the Brown County Clerk, and they are only open Monday through Friday.

6. Assuming It’ll Be Just Like Home

Every destination wedding location has its own style and feel.  Do not expect that the city life you are use to will be the same experience as small town hospitality.  A slower, laid back style often occurs in small towns.
